Critical Warning Issued to Parents Over Hazardous Toy That Poses Fatal Risk

A Serious Recall Has Been Issued for a Foldable Children's Toy Due to Risk of Infant Suffocation

Parents have been strongly advised to eliminate a certain children's play products from their homes, following reports linking the item to fatal suffocation incidents in infants. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently recalled the Welspo-branded foldable play yard, which has been identified as a serious safety hazard.

This product fails to meet numerous federal safety standards, with violations including unsafe mattress displacement and missing essential warning labels.

The recalled play yard features four mesh sides bordered in bright red, blue, yellow, and teal. Each panel is decorated with playful images of a lion, monkey, elephant, or the sun. The matching mattress, also adorned with these designs, comes with a portable carrying case.

Authorities from CPSC are urging families to “immediately stop using and destroy all Welspo-branded play yards.”

In their official recall notice, parents are provided with specific instructions: "To ensure safe disposal, dismantle the fabric from the frame, cut the play yard cover and mattress into pieces, and discard the remnants in the trash or recycle."

The Welspo-branded foldable play yard, recently recalled due to infant suffocation risks, features colorful panels with cartoon characters and lacks essential safety warnings.

These dangerous play yards, manufactured in China, were available for purchase on Amazon and Walmart websites for $90, between December 2023 and March 2024.

The CPSC is particularly concerned because the product was sold without necessary warnings and labels, exposing young children to the risk of suffocation—a grave hazard for infants who cannot control their body movements or free themselves if they become trapped.

Welspo-branded play yards measure 39 inches in width and length, standing 30 inches tall. The design includes a mesh panel with a zippered door, and the Welspo brand name is printed on the side.

Bestrich, the Hong Kong-based retailer responsible for distributing this product, has reportedly refused to offer an acceptable resolution for concerned consumers. Therefore, CPSC emphasizes that parents must act immediately to prevent any possible harm.

Parents are also encouraged to report any injuries or defects involving the play yard to the CPSC through their website at www.SaferProducts.gov

The CPSC strongly advises that parents disassemble the play yard to prevent future use and dispose of it properly. The recall is a critical response to prevent further tragedies, particularly as infant suffocation remains one of the most serious hazards posed by faulty childcare products.
